About
Set in the Victorian coastal town of Phillip Island, Red Rocks is a public golf course home to a 9 hole championship Par 3 short course.
Timeline
July 2006
Established by Rohan and Lisa Walker on an ocean front parcel of land set just moments from Cowes, what started as an outlandish idea to bring quality golf to the Island, began construction. During establishment, the course was originally named the Aussie Golf Ranch.
December 2006
Like many families and businesses in the area, the course was impacted by the drought conditions of 2006. With insufficient water to grow grass, the course was temporarily put on hold until conditions improved.
September 2007
With water conditions now improved, the greens were boxed out to USGA specs and seeded with G2 Bent Grass. The surrounds and aprons were seeded with Fescues and tees and fairways sprigged with Santa Anna Couch. The bulk of the works were carried out over an 8 week period, with over 250,000 cubic meters of earth being moved and moulded. As with links golf courses, the natural lay of the land was used to our advantage, with the majority of earthworks focused on the construction of the surrounding wetlands.
December 2007
The grass now re-sown and our wetlands full, the course was proudly self sufficient in regards to water and able to operate. We opened our links to the public in December 2007, welcoming golfers from near and far to play our Island courses.
September 2023
Passing the baton on from Rohan and Lisa Walker, Moda purchased the course, now named, Red Rocks. Red Rocks marks our first operation on the Island, and we are looking forward to being here for many years to come.
Team
The resident Superintendent, when it comes to quality greens, Dan is a man with a plan. Having lived and breathed golf for over 17 years, it is safe to say golf runs in the family. Well acquainted with the course, Dan has been tending to the greens since his uncle, Rohan Walker, first established the club. When Dan is not on the green, he is usually found adventuring with his dog or engaging in adrenaline sports.
The first face most golfers see upon arriving at the Club house, Lana is our slice of sunshine, whatever the weather. A bodyboarding expert and lover of spicy food, when Lana is not at the course you will generally find her somewhere on the Island with her two dogs, Frankie and Lizzie. Be sure to ask Lana for some local tips when you meet her, she knows all the best spots in town.
A welcome addition to the Clubhouse, Marcus keeps the show going rain, hail or shine. A keen fisherman who knows great food and wine, not only can Marcus hit a great ball, he will also serve up the goods when it comes to some quality post-game refuelling.
The co-keeper of the grass, alongside Dan, Ash is the man keeping the greens in top notch form. Mad about fishing and a fan of anything with wheels, when Ash is not on the green he is generally found camping on the Murray.

Locals we turn to
Commencing his long golf design career in 1979, it is fair to say Ross Watson knows a thing or two about a decent course. With a solid portfolio under his belt, pardon the pun, Ross is the man behind some of the greats including the sandy Magenta Shores course at The Entrance, north of Sydney, Pacific Harbour, Yering Meadows and Royal Sydney, which he overhauled in 2006.
Our go-to in the area to rejuvenate the look of any garden or outdoor spaces, Bass Coast Backyards provides a range of gardening and landscaping services. Helping us to green up our course and make it a welcome habitat for locals of the two and four leg variety, we find them the best in the business.
The Genobile Saba story is one defined by fresh, slow, healthy, happy food, made for families. Established by humble farmers from the Mediterranean who, many decades ago, had a dream to make Australia home, today you will find their pizza's on the menu in the Clubhouse. With no artificial or GMO ingredients, this is one recipe for the happiest food on earth.
Living by a motto of, “paddock to plate”, Island Primary Produce is a local favourite for great cuts. Sourced from Phillip Island beef cattle, as well as the Gippsland area, this local partner help us our bit to keep our food kilometers down. Known for a great meat tray, you will find their goods in the Clubhouse from time to time.
First established as a large warehouse fitted out for events and weddings, The Budgie took a certain lockdown in their stride and decided to keep the party going. Launching a delivery service, the team found a way to send their infamous cocktails far and wide. Hand made, labelled and bottled to ensure the highest quality product possible, today there is nothing better than enjoying a cocktail or two in the beer garden post game. Please enjoy responsibly.
With a long, rich history in the coffee industry, one could almost say that coffee runs in the blood of the Dimattina family. For seven decades, the family-run coffee business has been serving even the most discerning coffee drinkers, pouring heart and soul into every cup they brew. For your daily caffeine hit, we now serve Dimattina coffee anyway you like it in the Clubhouse.
